Lavender Essential Oil – Benefits and Uses

Lavender Essential Oil
Hello Everyone! Let’s talk today about Lavender Essential Oil. I first learned about Essential Oils when I was studying to be a massage therapist. I heard about it from other people in the classes I would take and as part of the massage curriculum. Lavender comes from a beautiful purple flower found in Southern France. It has a floral sweet scent. There are two different types of Lavender, which are: Lavandula officinalis and Lavandula angustifolia. Did you know, Lavender comes from the Latin word lavare, which means “to wash”. Lavender Essential Oil has a lot of uses and benefits. It ranges from skin care uses to hair benefits. I hope you will enjoy reading about Lavender.

Lavender Uses

You can make your own skin care product, you can buy a dark glass bottle on Amazon to mix Lavender, carrier oil, and Vitamin A & E in the bottle. You can fill up the bottle mainly with the carrier oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil) and add maybe half a ounce of Vitamin A & E with your choose of amount of Lavender. It all depends on how loud you want the DIY product to smell. You can apply this product to affect areas on your body.

Massages: Simply add Lavender to your massage cream, oil or lotion. You only need a few drops. If you add it to oil, I find using fractionated coconut is the best.

Personal Care: You can use Lavender in soaps, perfumes, ointments, and lotions. It is fun to go to Michael’s Craft Store to buy supplies to make soap. The creation process of making a product, like soap is fun. You can make many different types of soaps, lotions, perfumes etc.

Sleepy Time: I love to put Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon on my sheets before bed. They are great for cold season. I sometimes just use Lavender if I just want to go to sleep quickly. How Do I Use Essential Oils For – Everyday Use?

Hello and Welcome to, How Do I Use Essential Oils For – Everyday Use. I am so glad your here with me today. Today we are going to talk about all those uses from cooking to household tips. There are some many uses for essential oils and they smell wonderful. Okay everyone, here we go!

Essential oils for cooking

Essential Oils For Cooking

The first tips are for essential oils for cooking. Essential oils are a great way to add favor to your meals. They bring out the fresh taste of herbs and spices. I purchased a fantastic book, Modern Essentials by Aroma Tools. This book is for doTerra essential oils. I have to say, doTerra oils are my go to oil of choice.

When cooking with essential oils you need to know the amount to use and when to add it to your recipe or meal. Remember to keep in mind, that essential oils are very concentrated, so you do not use as much oil as you would a spice or herb. Modern Essentials recommends using one or two drops and adjust amount according to taste. It is also wise to know when to add your essential oils. It is best to wait for the food to cool before adding your oils. The preferred time to add essential oils is at the end of cooking. It is a major concern not to allow your essential oils to evaporate during cooking. I would hate for my hard work go to waste, how do your feel about knowing when to add your essential oils?

Time For Relaxing and Energizing Essential Oils

Okay Guys and Gals, does anyone know of an essential oil for relaxing? Did I hear you say Lavender? That is a great one. Of course, it is not the only relaxing essential oil on the market. I will get to that soon, but first essential oils are a natural way to clear the mind and body. There are no side effects like a medicine. Essential oils can help the body de-stress. Some of the essential oils that relax you are: Lavender, Roman Chamomile, Orange, Ylang Ylang, and Rose.

Relaxation Situations:

I have found several ways to use these soothing oils: use a diffusser, on my pillow/sheets, as a linen spray or in a relaxing bath. My favorite way, is on my pillow or sheets at night. I use Lavender the most to relax me and my family. If you use a linen spray, it can get clogged. You can resolve this by, dissolving the essential oil you choose with 1 teaspoon of grain alcohol before adding your water to the spray bottle. I am sure at this point, you may be asking what is grain alcohol? It is a pure alcohol made from grains like corn. You can use a lot of essential oil or a little of essential oil. Just remember one drop goes a long way!

Now if your need to energize yourself! There are also several essential oils that can get the job done. They are great right when you wake-up or just need a little pick me up. Hey guys and gals, can you try this and tell me how it works? When you need a caffeine drink, use a energizing essential oil instead of the caffeine drink. Tell me if the essential oil gave you a natural pick me up! Did you need to drink a caffeine too? Okay, as promised here are a few energizing essential oils: Peppermint, Wintergreen, Lemon, Eucalyptus, and Basil. Please be very careful with these oils. Are your listening? I am being very serious, PLEASE BE CAREFUL! These essential oils are strong in odor and can burn your eyes.

Lemon and Peppermint

Energizing Situations:

Just like the relaxing oils, you can use these essential oils in a diffusser. You can also use a few drops in a morning drink or in the bath/shower. If you put it in a drink, you can add Peppermint, Lemon or Orange to water or to a smoothie. All you need is a few drops and your off to drinking heathly. I personally like adding essential oils to a bath or shampoo in the shower. You can ever make a bath sea salt scrub to exfoliate your skin. Okay guys and gals, all you have to do is combine several drops of your essential oil with 1/2 cup of Epsom salt or Sea Salt. This will make for a luxurious bath. My favorite is Lavender at night and Lemon for the morning. You can also use blends too. It is fun to come up with your own blends. Have fun creating!

Ending Notes . . .

Essential Oils are used for different everyday uses. They are great for cooking with, for relaxing/energizing your body, using in the shower or bath, personal care, and using them to clean or disinfect your house. Experiment with your oils and have fun, but please be safe. As always, if you have a question please type it in the comments area. I will be happy to answer any of your questions.

If you have a question, please leave me a comment. I am here to help.

Great For Colds

baby with cold

This recipe I use with my family and I have to say it is my favorite! It always helps me and my two boys sleep well at night. I put it on the bed sheets or use my diffuser to inhale the vapor. You will only need to use 1-2 drops per oil. These three essential oils have a way of making you relaxed, happy, and stimulated. When using all three of these oils together, you are forming a blend.

 1.  Peppermint

2.  Lavender

 3.  Lemon

Don’t Let It Go To Your Head

This is again one of those very helpful and useful blends. I get headaches and use this blend to control the pain. There are many types of headaches and I would say, try it you don’t have anything to lose! What you want to do is put a few drops of each oil in a carrier oil and apply to your temples, forehead, back of neck, and feet. This should have you feeling good as new!

1. Peppermint 2 drops

2. Lavender 5 drops

3. Rosemary 4 drops

4. Frankincense 4 drops

5. Roman Chamomile 3 drops

My Aching Back

Think it is safe to say, most people in the world experience back pain. I’m I right? Please let me know your thoughts, if you care to share. Essential oils can help in this area. You can use essential oils in sea salt scrubs or in a carrier oil to relieve your back pains. Combine 5 to 10 drops of each essential oil

1. Peppermint

2. Rosemary

3. Basil

Figuring Type of Essential Oil

All essential oils have an odor intensity, some will be very strong and others will be faint.

They also have a note type. I will do a list for you below:

  • Peppermint (Minty & Intense) = 5 Middle Note (50-80% blend)
  • Lavender (Floral & Sweet) = 2 Middle Note (50-80% blend)
  • Orange (Fresh & Fruity) = 1 Top Note (5-20% blend)
  • Basil (Spicy & Lively) = 4 Top to Middle Note (20-80% blend)
  • Frankincense (Rich & Balsamic) = 3 Base Note (5-20% blend)
  • Clary Sage (Sharp & Spicy) = 3 Middle to Base Note (20-80% blend)
  • Melaleuca (Medicinal & Woody) = 3 Middle Note (50-80% blend)

Note: The number stands for the intensity of the essential oil. I also want to thank Modern Essentials for my research.

Okay everyone, Essential oils can come from my different sources. For example, Lavender comes from a flower. It is a beautiful purple flower found in France. Essential oils can help you in many ways. If we stay with our example, Lavender can help with Headaches, Allergies, Depression, etc. When you add more than one oil together you get what is called a blend of essential oils. Essential oils also have a note type and odor intensity. The world of essential oils is a fascinating one.

5 Must Have Essential Oils – You Need In Your Cabinet

Hello everyone and welcome to the 5 Must Have Essential Oils! What are essential oils? I know a lot of people are just discovering the wonderful world of essential oils. My first exposure to the wonderful world of essential oils was in massage school. I graduated as a massage therapist in 2005. Essential oils come from liquids distilled from plants, seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers, etc. They are extracted in two ways: steam distillation or expression. Steam distillation is the most common way to extract essential oils and expression is best for extracting essential oils from citrus fruits. There is much to learn with essential oils. Come take a journey with me to the 5 must have essential oils.

The Holy Frankincense

Frankincense is known as one of the gifts baby Jesus received in the manger. It is a holy and universal oil. I know for a fact, it is great for cancer! It is also used for: Alzheimer’s Disease, Brain Injury, Depression, Inflammation, Parkinson’s Disease, Prevention of Scarring, Warts, etc. You can use it topical, aromatic or internal. Just a few drops is needed of this rich, sweet and warm oil. Frankincense has several noteworthy properties: Anticatarrhal, anticancer, antidepressant, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antitumor, expectorant, immune stimulant, and a sedative. Let’s continue our learning with some more essential oils.

Leave It To Lavender

Lavender is a calming oil that balances the body. It is used to reduce stress and promote restful sleep. Have you ever used Lavender? I love to put a few drops on my sheets at night to relax me. It is also used for: Allergies, Anxiety, Burns, Calming, Diabetic Sores, Fever, Grief/Sorrow, Herpes Simplex, Itching, Mental Stress, Mood Swings, Mosquito Repellent, Poison Ivy/Oak, Physical Stress, Postpartum Depression, Sedative, Sleep, Stress, Stretch Marks, Teething Pain, Thrush, Vertigo, Worms, Wounds, etc. You can use it topical, aromatic, or internal just like Frankincense. Lavender also has some great properties: Analgesic, anticoagulant, anticonvulsant, antidepressant, antifungal, anti-histamine, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antimutagenic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, antitumor, cardiotonic, regenerative, and a sedative.

Here are the properties of Lemon: Anticancer, antidepressant, antiseptic, antifungal, antioxidant, antiviral, astringent, invigorating, refreshing, and a tonic.

Time For Tea Tree

Tree Tea also called Melaleuca is known as the First Aid Oil. It is great for cuts and scrapes. I use this oil for my fever blisters and pimples on my face. Tea Tree has a medicinal woody scent, which some people like and others can not stand. I personally love the fragrance. It is also used for: Acne, Athlete’s Foot, Boils, Canker Sores, Coughs, Ear Infections, Eczema, Earache, Flu, Gum Disease, Herpes Simplex, Hives, Infected Wounds, Jock Itch, Lice, MRSA, Nail Infection, Pink Eye, Ringworm, Shock, Thrush, Vaginal Infection, Varicose Ulcer, Viral Infections, Warts, Wounds, etc. The properties of Tea Tree are very long, so I will list just a few: A strong antiseptic, stimulant, expectorant, decongestant, immune stimulant, insecticidal, tissue regenerative, etc. This was my first oil I ever bought in a store.

Let’s Cheer For Peppermint

Peppermint is a strong minty oil. It does not take much to get the work done. You have to be careful with Peppermint oil because it can burn your eyes and other parts of your body. I love to use Peppermint with Lavender to help with my headaches. I use a carrier oil with the two oils and apply to my temple. It is also used for: Alertness, Antioxidant, Bell’s Palsy, Cold Sores, Congestion, Diarrhea, Endurance, Fainting, Flu, Gastritis, Headaches, Heartburn, Hernia, Herpes Simplex, Hives, Hot Flashes, Indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Itching, Jet Lag, Lactation, Memory, Migraines, Motion Sickness, MRSA, Muscle Fatigue, Nausea, Olfactory Loss, Osteoporosis, Paralysis, Rhinitis, Sciatica, Shock, Tennis Elbow, Throat Infection, Ulcer, Varicose Veins, Vomiting, etc. The properties of Peppermint are: Analgesic, antibacterial, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, and invigorating.

About Emily

Hello everyone and welcome to Health Benefits of Essential Oils website. Essential oils have been a passion of mine ever since going to massage therapy school in 2005. It is very interesting to learn the properties on each oil. I have purchased numerous oils over the years.

A Little Story About My Essential Oil Life.

My essential oil journey started when I started massage therapy school in Evans, GA. I truly had not heard of essential oils until one of my classmates started talking about them. This started my wheels to turning in my head. I had to learn more about essential oils. I found it very interesting that you could use essential oils for headaches. I was having a lot of headaches at this time. She told me to buy some peppermint and lavender oils to use for my headaches. I was so amazed that oils could help my headaches. I no longer had to take pills all the time to deal with my headaches. I was on cloud 9!

I need to learn more about essential oils at this point. If peppermint and lavender helped my headaches then what else could oils do? I was educated in massage school a little about essential oils. I also went on to take an online course called Arom101: Foundations from The East-West School for Herbal & Aromatic Studies. This was very beneficial. I used the essential oils with my clients during massage sessions. It was a big hit with everyone!

Why Help People With Essential Oils?

I care about people. I want to heal them. I hate to hear that someone is in pain. Essential oils are here to help people heal naturally without taking pills, which acts like a toxin in your body. I believe in healing your body naturally. Essential oils can help topically, aromatically and internally. I am here for you!

Essential oils can also be used sublingual, in cooking, vaginal insertion, rectal insertion, capsules, beverages, and spa/bath treatments. For example, you can make bath salts with essential oils for a relaxing bath or shower, make different recipes like Peppermint Healthy Fudge, and take essential oils internally using a capsule.

My Purpose

I would like to educate you on the different types of essential oils, how to use them, and how they can heal your body. It is best to be educated on essential oils to know which ones to buy for your personal needs. Just so you know what essential oils are, the next sentence defines essential oils. Essential oils are substances created inside aromatic plants that are both volatile and oil soluble (Modern Essentials, Fifth Edition, 2013).

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below or email me and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Here’s to Your Health and God Bless,
